Why don’t you recommend using a tape measure?
The tape measure system was developed over 80 years ago and body shapes – and our understanding of them – have changed a great deal since then.
The tape measure system was never intended for larger cup sizes, only for cup sizes A to D. Additionally, you have to be wearing a bra in order to be measured, but you won’t get an accurate measurement if you're wearing the wrong size bra in the first place. It also ignores the shape of the ribcage, which varies between women and can affect sizing.
Bra fitting can easily be done in the comfort of your own home, with a mirror and a little bit of your own judgement – please see our simple guidelines.
What's the most common error in choosing a bra size?
Opting for a back band that is too big. This gives poor support which can lead to bad posture and even cause skin irritation/soreness through too much movement against your skin.
The band of your bra should be firm and supportive when fastened, as it needs to anchor the bra against your ribcage.
Try following our guide and don’t be surprised if you find yourself going down one or two back sizes!
I’ve found a style I like but my specific size is out of stock
You can try going down a band size and up a cup size, or up a band size and down a cup size.
For example, if you're a 34E, try a 32F or a 36DD. This is called 'sister sizing' – the cup volume will be the same for these three sizes, it's just that the band will feel tighter or looser.
Which hook and eye should I wear my bra on?
When buying a new bra, you should initially wear it on the loosest hook and eye. With washing and wearing, the fabric will slacken and stretch, and you’ll be able to gradually change the fastening to the middle, then smallest hook and eye to accommodate these changes.
This bra doesn’t feel right?
The fit and feel will be dependent on the different fabrics and elastics used across our wide variety of styles. Our fit models are in sizes 34DD; 36F; 42H and 38J to ensure a consistent fit and support across the size range.
